MEET OUR STARS:

Alex Ross, Co-Founder of KU Dance Marathon

My freshman year here at KU I worked along side 17 other students to bring Dance Marathon to campus. In four years we have raised over $125,000 and helped support Children’s Miracle Network of the Greater KC area. I’ve also held positions in MILK, CCO Advisory Board, SLC, and the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity (as a member). I love taking long hot showers.

She is the Executive Director of the Center for Community Outreach and a 2011 E.x.C.E.L. winner. She also serves at the Outreach Co-Director of The Big Event, senior class Board of Class Officers representatives, and DJ for KJHK. Emily is quite the adrenaline junkie. She loves to sky dive, bungee jump, white water raft, and ride roller coasters

Cody Charles, Assistant Director of Sabatini Multicultural Center

Cody Charles has a smile, laugh, and personality that can light up any room. He began his career in university housing; however, he also had a true passion for social justice issues and leadership. He has made the move to Multicultural Affairs where he currently serves as an Assistant Director. During his time at KU, he has led diversity trainings for much of the campus community, including: student athletes, student executive boards, staff, faculty, and high school and middle school students. In addition, he has advised student groups such as: Black Student Union, Residence Hall Association, Alpha Tao Omega, and the NPHC Judicial Board. One of his life goals is to travel the country lecturing on social justice & leadership topics. He has been a great facilitator, mentor, advisor, and most important, a great friend to all the students who have had the pleasure of working with him.

Daymond Patterson, KU Football Player

Daymond Patterson is from Mesquite, TX. I’m a senior and play football here at KU. I haven’t done any choreographed dancing before and am really looking forward to this challenge. I feel that playing football will help out with my feet and hips. This will be a new fun experience but at the end of the day I’m looking to win.

Her major involvements include Orientation Coordinator-New Student Orientation, The BIG Event-Director of Internal Affairs, Board of Class Officers, Student Ambassadors, Mortar Board. A fun-fact about Eileen is that she once ordered a travel guide from every state and had them sent to her mother.

Jay Lewis, Hillel Executive Director

Jay Lewis is in his 10th year as the executive director of KU Hillel, the Jewish Student Center at the University of Kansas. During his tenure, KU Hillel has emerged as one of the largest organizations at KU and one of the most successful Hillel’s in the country. A KU alum, Lewis has been recognized as KU Student Group Advisor of the Year and a Hillel International “Exemplar of Excellence.” As a student, he performed over 400 shows at Comedy Sportz, an improvisational comedy club in Kansas City. Prior to KU’s Dancing with the Stars, his dance experience was limited to watching “So You Think You Can Dance” and dancing in his living room with his wife and two kids, Keaton and Mckenna.

Kerry Benson, Journalism Lecturer

It took more than 22 years of professional print journalism and advertising planning and copywriting to get Kerry Benson to KU’s School of Journalism, where she’s taught since 1999. When she’s not teaching graduate and undergraduate students the principles of good writing, advertising and public relations, Benson plays tennis, runs and devours good literature. A mash-up of Benson’s skills might read: She can start an IV, drive a tractor-trailer and diagram a sentence. And she makes a mean apple pie.
