What is First Friday’s you ask?
The Kansas City’s Crossroads district houses a various amount of entertainment. From theatre to live music the Crossroads district contributes accessible ways for communities to experience different forms of art. One of the opportunities you as a student or faculty member can participate in is the First Friday’s Bus Trips!
Just like the name suggests First Friday’s happens every first Friday of the month. It’s a day where artist gather and fill the streets with different galleries, projects, and pieces to showcase to the public. Businesses feature local and national artist and art for everyone to enjoy.
A gallery called Jones Gallery is showcasing an exhibit called the “No Apathy Zone.” This gallery will feature original art from Kevin Vorndran who is a local tattoo artist that resides in the Kansas City area. Another gallery is taking place in the Buttonwood Art Space. The showcase is called Urban and Abstract and will feature both urban and abstract pieces. The proceeds from each piece sold will go to Main Street Corridor Development Corporation or MainCor. MainCor is a leading supporter of residential, mixed-use, and commercial development for Kansas City. Maincor is helping make economic and aesthetic progress in the Kansas City midland area. By enjoying and supporting local art you are also helping to support an expanding community.
Tickets for the Bus Trip can be purchased at the Welcome Center, $5 for students and $7 for the public. See you there!
